Radial growls to greet the dawn
As she crawls across the farms
Pistons barking at the sun
Howling to be unleashed
And running free

Slice the mist with my vortices
Gallop ‘cross the dewy field
Prop blades gnaw at gravity’s leash
As rag wings claw the sky
Until we climb

Please Lord save me a patch of blue
So I can gain some altitude
Find some flying friends
And share a joke or two.

Driving Merle’s silver wings
Flying far from home
Heading off for parts unknown
Where I hope to find
Peace of mind

Smashing bugs and chasing trains
As I buzz across the plains
Clipping clouds and racing rain
To a friendly patch of grass
Where I can land

Please Lord save me a patch of blue
So I can gain some altitude
Find some flying friends
And share a joke or two.

And on that day when I go west
Leavin’ behind Nebraska’s dust
Let the angels sing a warbirds song
And fill my days with barnstorm dreams
